oko

Although Okonkwo is revered as a powerful warrior and strong leader, he also is noted for his intolerance for laziness, his short temper, and his often violently impulsive actions Okonkwo beat his wife for not making dinner one night, another example is when he killed a British messenger. These rash and impulsive actions can be noted throughout the whole book.
The source of Okonkwo’s character seems to stem from his only fear. The fear of becoming lazy and idle like his own father. In the end this fear ends up becoming his bane because he dies a lonely and shameful suicide after he discovers his clansmen did not support his actions. This is a perfect example Aristotle’s tragic hero, a hero who becomes undone by one major flaw that serves as a lesson tot eh reader. The lesson for things fall part could be discerned as not being afraid to become someone, but rather just live your own life happily.
